Rescuing the Superheroes!

A gamified strength training programme in Primary Education

Description

This activity consists of a gamified Physical Education unit based on strength training adapted to Primary Education. Through a superhero narrative, students complete cooperative missions that include bodyweight exercises, strength circuits and problem-solving challenges. The programme aims to improve physical fitness, motivation and healthy lifestyle habits while promoting teamwork, inclusion and positive social interaction.

The activity was implemented as part of the official Physical Education curriculum over 12 sessions. Each session followed a structured sequence including storytelling, warm-up, main cooperative challenges and final reflection. Exercises and loads were adapted to students’ age and abilities. Active methodologies such as gamification and problem-based learning were used, with special attention to safety, inclusion and progressive difficulty.

Experience from the testing

Students reported high levels of enjoyment, motivation and participation. They particularly valued teamwork, cooperation and the novelty of the activities compared to traditional Physical Education lessons. The teacher highlighted the feasibility of the programme and its positive impact on students’ engagement, attitudes and learning related to physical activity and health.
